A Walk through some of the History of Benissa

On Tuesday 27th May, Keith led his group on a short but very interesting tour
around Benissa, where he explained some of the history of the town and its buildings.

At the Cathedral, Keith explained how this building was originally being built as a private house,
but became a Cathedral when the people of Benissa thought it was being built for them as a church.

The group then took a short walk through the small streets of the old town to arrive at the
stately home of the Abargues family. Keith explained that This family arrived in Calpe in the early
1600s but relocated to Benissa in late 1700s due to frequent pirate attacks on Calpe.

The home consists of two houses converted into one. It was renovated
in 1940 and has been left very much furnished as it was at that time.
