After 8 years of leading the Jávea U3A Mountain Walks Group, Al Knight has decide to step down as Group Leader. This group has been going since the early days of Jávea U3A. Al has led the group on some fantastic walks over this period, showing us parts of Marina Alta that might otherwise have never been known about. We have seen many great sights and views as well as getting exercise and making great friends. Al is an ex-member of the Costa Blanca Mountain Walkers and we all benefitted from his experience and knowledge of the multitude of walks in this part of Spain.

None of the current group members feel they have the expertise to lead this group and therefore, as a result, the Mountain Walk Group is now disbanded.

Those in the group today and those that walked with Al in the past, appreciate Al’s efforts and we all have a greater understanding of the land we live in as a result of all the great walks Al has taken us on.

Many thanks to you Al from all your walkers.

For those that want to continue to do mountain walks, the Costa Blanca Mountain Walkers may suit your requirements. See the CBMW website for more details.

In place of the Mountain Walks, the Intermediate Walks Group intend to do an extra walk each month on the first Thursday of the month. These walks will mostly be shorter than the mountain walks, and more local to Jávea-Gata area. However, we may occasionally, with help from the group members, do walks that might be considered as mountain walks and in areas a little further away. Watch the Intermediate Walk schedule.

All walks will meet at 9.20am in the Benitachell Tourist Office car park (opposite Mas y Mas). Walkers will then travel (in their cars or car sharing) to the start point for the walk. This can involve a drive of anything between 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the location of the walk.

The Mountain Walk Schedule will be updated when it is necessary to alter a walk, so please check it before each walk for the latest details. However, if weather conditions merit it, the leader and the group assembled at the Meeting Venue may decide to alter the walk.

After about 2 hrs into the walk, at a suitable location, the group will stop for 20 minutes for a lunch break. So bring something for lunch (e.g. sandwiches!).

All Jávea U3A members are welcome but all walkers participate at their own risk. It is your responsibility to look at the walk characteristics in the Walk Schedule and ensure that you are capable of doing the walk.

No registration is required, just turn up at the meeting point in good time for the walk. Bring ample water, refreshments (lunch), appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes/boots.

Any queries contact the Group Leader on the address above.

A walking guide with instructions and maps has been produced for an excellent new walk for the group from the Ermita de Sant Blai in Pedreguer. There is also a Google Earth map to download for those that wish to study the route in more detail.

There are also Google Earth maps for new walks from Benissa Cemetery and from Pedreguer town as well as for the Pinos walk.
