Wine Appreciation

Trip to the town of Enguera and Bodegas Enguera

The Wine Appreciation Group's outing this year was to Enguera, a town of some 6000 people deep in the heart of the Sierra de Enguera mountains.  The principal reason for the trip was to visit Bodegas Enguera and we were met by the owner Pedro, together with Nacho and Toni from the Enguera tourist office.  Pedro's enthusiasm and knowledge of the cultivation and production of wine was contagious, as was his attitude towards nature.  We were shown all aspects of his production and this was followed by a tasting.  Without doubt, the best bodega visit ever!

The group was then in the hands of Nacho and Toni, from the local tourist office, who, being young and enthusiastic, tried to show us EVERYTHING in the very hilly town of Enguera they were so proud of!  We were certainly ready for lunch, which could justly be described as 'hearty by nature'.  Certain members became enlightened to the fact that Gazpacho Manchego wasn't the cold tomato soup they expected and that the 'Beef Stew' was mainly a sausage dish!  All seemed to be forgiven however by the copious quantity of wine available.
