The President's Report (October 2014)

At our last meeting on 24th SeptemberPeter Atkinson gave a very entertaining talk entitled My life in Lycra on the Roads to Santiago de Compostela which was as informative as it was amusing.  I look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it to our General Assembly at the Parador Hotel on 29th October. Our guest speaker this month is Michael Bulleid who will be drawing on his many years experience as a Criminal Barrister to present a talk entitled Historic sex crimes of today. He will examine and explain the crimes, trials and sentences of offenders whose crimes of the past are being tried and punished in the modern day.

This year’s Barn Dance is on Friday 14th November at Los Arcos. Tickets are €25 per person which includes a three course meal, with a half bottle of wine, and music provided by the excellent Los Rancheros. There are still some tickets available which can be ordered using the ticketline at tickets@u3ajavea.org or purchased at the next General Assembly on 29th October at the Parador when tickets already ordered can be paid for and collected.

A vacancy exists for the Deputy Secretary of your committee, if you are interested in taking up this role please contact either myself or Val Dromgole on secretary@u3ajavea.org.
A job description can be found at Deputy Sec.

Jeni and Stan Oldfield who have stepped down as group leaders after six years presided over their last quiz night earlier this month and we are looking for volunteers to take over the running of the quiz group. Further details are available from our Groups Coordinator David Grove on groups.coordinator@u3ajavea.org

Our website is the most effective means of keeping members up to date with all that is happening in our U3A. Group leaders, event organisers and committee officers all use the News FEED to keep members informed as to what is going on. As it is updated every time there is new information available, the News FEED is the most accurate method of providing our members with all current information. The best way to keep in touch is to add an icon to your desktop which will take you straight to the Jávea U3A Homepage on which the News FEED resides. It’s really easy to do, just click on this link and follow the ten easy steps Set Home Page.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Tony Willacy on 5th September 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Tony had been an active member of the U3A since its inauguration in 2005 enjoying the friendship of members of the gardening, bird watching and walking groups; and on occasion Mike Frost's painting group. We offer our sincere condolences to his wife and family.

Looking ahead, please remember there will be no speaker at the November Parador Meeting as this, being our last meeting of the year, will be our Christmas Extravaganza. Your committee is presently working on a programme of entertainment that you will definitely not want to miss!
