Jávea U3A

The President's Report (March 2015)

I am delighted that we have managed to secure ABBA ELITE to entertain us at our 10th Anniversary event on 5th June. Abba Elite is the live tribute to the world’s favourite pop group that continues to entertain and amaze audiences from every generation by recreating and performing all of those classic hits. It will be an amazing evening. After a Cava reception, enjoy a gourmet four course dinner and coffee with wine, beer and water available on demand and free of additional charge, until the dessert course is concluded, then enjoy the live musical entertainment provided by ABBA ELITE. We can experience an excellent evening at a bargain price of only €35. Tickets can be ordered at tickets@u3ajavea.org.

There are three choices of main course with a vegetarian option available for those who wish; any special dietary needs will be accommodated. Further information can be found at Special Events.

At our last meeting we were held spellbound by Howard Parker as he regaled us with tales about his life as a model maker. Entertaining and informative, Howard’s talk was enjoyed by all present and he is already working on a return engagement later this year.

This months meeting is our AGM, where the official business of the year is conducted. Arrangements are well under way and Tom Stevenson, who is very kindly organising the voting, has already initiated the voting process and provided the opportunity to vote by email. You can also vote at the Parador Hotel just prior to the start of the AGM meeting. I would urge you to please vote if you haven’t done so already – it is so easy and it takes very little time to do.

During the meeting we will be presenting a cheque to a representative of Emaús, which is the charity that benefits from our fundraising throughout 2014. Also Candy Wright who is President of Help DAMA, our chosen charity for 2015, will be telling us about that organisation. At the March AGM meeting we will be collecting food for Cáritas, so please be generous and bring along as many food items that are within their use by date as you can.

Reflecting on the year now ending, your committee has managed to achieve most of the objectives set 12 months ago, and certainly those of most import. Committee members, group leaders and many others have contributed to providing an infrastructure and a diverse range of activities, events and services that are available to and enjoyed by our membership over previous years. I am sure all that good work will continue to ensure the coming year will be no different.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the AGM and to us all enjoying the benefits of membership of Jávea U3A over the coming year.
