The President's Report (May 2015)

With our 10th Anniversary Ball taking place on 5th June, our May meeting presents the final opportunity for members to buy tickets, or pay for and collect tickets already ordered, and advise of their menu selections. It will be an amazing evening. After a Cava reception, we will enjoy a gourmet four course dinner and coffee with wine, beer and water available on demand and free of additional charge, until the dessert course is concluded, then enjoy the live musical entertainment provided by ABBA ELITE. We can experience an excellent evening at a bargain price of only €35. Tickets can still be be ordered at tickets@u3ajavea.org.

The ball is the last event I am organising as Events Coordinator after three years in the role and I am delighted that following the announcement of the impending vacancy at the meeting last month Krystyna Stefancyk has volunteered to take over. Krysyna has already started organising the barn dance which will take place on Friday 13th November; more details to follow.

Another committee vacancy that was announced at the April meeting was that of Secretary. The Secretary is one of the positions on the Executive Committee that by law must have someone in place and as such does need to be filled as a matter of some urgency. Ideally we need someone with good secretarial and administration skills, a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience of minute taking and conduct of meetings. Shorthand would be an advantage but not essential. A full job description can be found on the website. If you have the required experience and would like to be considered for the vacant position please contact me at president@u3ajavea.org.

We are very fortunate that in Marie Craig we have a very able Deputy who, as part of her job, currently takes the minutes at Committee meetings and General meetings. Marie has generously agreed to take on the role of Secretary for one more month so we can fulfil our legal obligations. The Secretary, with the President, is responsible for drafting and distribution of agendas and notices calling for meetings; quite simply, if we don’t have a secretary we can’t have any more meetings, a situation we may well find ourselves in at the end of June.

As a result of the takeover of Barclays Bank in Spain by La Caixa our bank details have changed. The new details are on the website.

At the last General Meeting Malcolm Neill managed to condense three months of circumnavigating Great Britain by sea into a very interesting and entertaining talk and visual presentation relating his experiences. The minutes of this meeting are available on the website.

This month our speaker is Mike Evans who is the President of The Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir and will be presenting a talk spanning his early church choir experiences and other personal musical events up to the formation of the Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir entitled From St Leonard's to the The Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir.

Finally I would take this opportunity to remind all members that we are obliged to carry our current membership cards when attending Javea U3A events and activities.
