Jávea U3A

The President's Report (November 2015)

Following this month’s meeting of the Executive Committee Clive White is no longer fulfilling the role as Webmaster of the Jávea U3A website. On behalf of our U3A I would like to thank Clive for his work in the past as Deputy Webmaster and more recently as Webmaster. His significant contribution to the development and management of our website and email system is acknowledged and appreciated. For the remainder of the term of this committee the Website will be maintained by a team, led by Executive Committee members Secretary Phil Gibson-Daw and Communications Officer David Woodhall, which will continue to develop the site as the main information source of our U3A. With what we are sure will be an orderly transition to the new web management team those sending information for inclusion on the website should continue to use the existing email addresses.

This year’s barn dance was held on Friday 13th November at Los Arcos. Over 100 members twirled their partners and stripped the willow throughout the night to music and direction provided by the excellent Los Rancheros at the event, organised by Krystyna Stefanczyk, which raised well over €600 for Help DAMA, the charity we are supporting this year.

A reminder that members are invited to present themselves as candidates for election to any of the Executive Committee positions, all of which become vacant at the next AGM in March. All members, including existing Executive Committee members, are eligible to be nominated as a candidate for any Executive Committee position. Nominations close at noon on 26th November. All nominations must be notified using the appropriate form correctly completed with all Nominees, their Proposers and Seconds being members of Jávea U3A. Nomination forms can be downloaded from the website and are available from the President and the Secretary Properly completed forms must be delivered by hand to the President before 12.00. on 26th November 2015. Just by way of clarification anyone can present a nomination form, it does not necessarily need to be the actual nominee.

There is no speaker at the November meeting as this, being our last meeting of the year, will be our Christmas Extravaganza. Raffles, entertainment, mince pies, sherry, singing, voting; you will definitely not want to miss this one!
Whilst the Extravaganza is not considered a general assembly in the normal sense, we will be voting to select our chosen charity for 2016. The charities nominated for consideration are

  • Caritas

  • Junta Local Jávea de la Asociación Española Contra el Cancer

  • Cruz Roja Jávea.

Please note that the Extravaganza is a “Caritas collection day”, the last one this year.
