Jávea U3A

The President's Report (October 2015)

It is with much regret that I have to announce that Marie Craig has resigned as Deputy Secretary creating a vacancy in that position. If you are interested in taking up this role please contact either myself or Phil Gibson-Daw secretary@u3ajavea.org. A job description can be found on the Website Our wholehearted thanks are due to Marie for her contribution, especially willingly taking on the job of Secretary for six months and it is regrettable she felt she had to resign.

Last month we were treated to Howard Parker sharing some of the more amusing stories of his life as a Policeman in Bristol which were very entertaining and at times insightful.

During our next General Assembly meeting at the Parador on 28th October we have as our speaker Bob James from Bay Radio who will be giving us an overview of his life in radio describing the changes he has witnessed, the challenges he has faced and his many experiences. Bob has a long career in radio encompassing Pirate stations to modern day and has as such been part of the evolution of radio to what it now is. At Bay Radio Bob is, amongst other roles, Program Director, Chief Engineer, Head Producer, Senior Presenter and sometimes turns his hand to journalism.

This month’s General meeting is the last opportunity for members to nominate a charity via the Suggestion Box from which the Executive Committee will select a list of three in November. The shortlist will then be voted on by a show of hands at the General Meeting in November with the charity/NGO obtaining the most votes becoming the nominated charity for next year. The information required for presenting a nomination is posted on the website.

Looking ahead, please remember there will be no speaker at the November Parador meeting as this, being our last meeting of the year, will be our Christmas Extravaganza. It will also be a “Caritas collection day”. Hope to see as many of you as possible at our future meetings and that you all continue to benefit from your membership of Jávea U3A.
