Jávea U3A

The President's Report (October 2016)

The Xiringitos are gone, as are most of our summer visitors, no need to book at our favourite restaurants and a complete palette of Jávea U3A activities. What with continuing temperate weather, we in Jávea are truly blessed.

We collected over €1300 for our Bomberos at the September General Meeting and Emma Lawton, the wife of Captain, Alan, will attend our October Meeting to receive your donation.

I went with a group of 50 or so members on the one night trip to Albarracín and Teruel and we had a great time in these historic and attractive towns. Thank you to Barbara Gorrod who led the trip on behalf of the Travel Group.

Another 50 or so went on Angela Chantry and Tony Dearie’s Spanish Culture & Cuisine day-trip to Cullera which, I hear, was a great success.

Before the October Meeting, a group will be going on a five day trip, staying in Mérida, Cáceres and Ciudad Real. Organised by Joni Hills and Barbara Gorrod of the Travel Group, I am looking forward to an enjoyable few days.

Well, we are closing in on our annual Barn Dance at Venta de Posa on Friday 28th October and I understand it is not too late to join the fun. Come along, I will be there do-si-do-ing for all I'm worth!

I am looking forward to Chris Duffin’s talk Jail Tales at the October General Meeting. Chris had a long and distinguished career in the prison service, including governorships in Strangeways and Dartmoor. Chris is very amusing and her presentation is not to be missed.

And finally, rehearsals for the annual November Extravaganza are in full swing. We expect the usual “tour de force” produced, once more, by our own Sally Wells.

Look out for the emails and visit our website www.u3ajavea.org to stay abreast of Jávea U3A events.
