Jávea U3A

The President's Report (December 2017)

This is my favourite time of year … not just because it is Christmas but because we have Jávea more or less to ourselves. No traffic jams, we can drive the coast road with a clear view of the Mediterranean and all the restauranteurs are really pleased to see us.

This is a time of year to think of our Members who are not in good health and to wish them better fortune in the new year. We think particularly of Pat Johnson, who with her husband Eric, has organised the Dine and Dance group for ten years or so.

Our members have been generous once again this year with donations to Cáritas and our nominated charity Make a Smile, to whom we will be presenting a cheque at the February meeting. Our charity in the coming year is Todos Juntos Jávea which is dedicated to helping vulnerable families in Jávea.

We have had such a busy December with Group Leaders organising Christmas parties, among them the wonderful WAGs/WAGs Too run by Trevor and Sally Rush, Spanish Culture and Cuisine with Angela and Tony, Krystyna’s Rummikubs, Dine and Dance hosted by David and Anne Watts this year at the Parador, and not to forget Mike Frost’s End of Year Lunch at La Masena.

What a great show this year’s Extravaganza at the November Meeting. Shirley King, with husband Richard, put together a fine effort to which so many Members contributed. I commend Members to watch the fine video shot by Ross Ord. The Meeting concluded with the audience and cast enthusiastically tucking into sherry and mince pies.

I thank all the Group Leaders for their tireless efforts again this year and the Members owe these volunteers a debt of gratitude.

Finally, I would like to thank the Executive Committee and the Non-Executive Committee for making this another memorable year in the history of the Jávea U3A.

I wish them, and you, our 1400+ Membership, a very happy Christmas and look forward to you all renewing your Membership in 2018.
