Jávea U3A

The President's Report (September 2017)

September is upon us …. we can park our cars, book and enjoy a meal at our favourite restaurant, be fairly sure a driver will stop when we are on a marked pedestrian crossing and revel in the more temperate weather.

Most Jávea U3A activities that have been suspended during the summer are in operation again and on Wednesday 27th September we have our first General Meeting since June.

As you know “Make a Smile” is our nominated charity this year. Tony Grande, from that organisation, will give a short presentation of its work at the beginning of the meeting.

Our speaker this month is Peter Davies who, many of you will recall, gave a talk last year. Peter is a lawyer who has worked in high technology “IT” companies. His talk is entitled Bill Gates, Steve Jobs … and me. It will be very entertaining and not to be missed.

Among a number of interesting events in September and October are Charo Brown’s walks along the Camino de Santiago from Javea; Angela and Tony’s day trip to Anna featuring an Arab palace and a brewery; and the Barbara Gorrod’s excursion to Ciudad Encantada and Cuenca.

The traditional ”Extravaganza” will not take place in November in the same format as in previous years, but there will be a show followed by sherry and mince pies.

We hope to have a number of entertainments presented by our members and I welcome any suggestions from you all.
