The President's Report for April 2018

It was with fear and trepidation, not to mention the wobbly knees, that I took the microphone at the March AGM.  Although I have been on the Committee for a number of years, I had never actually stood up and spoken.  And I was right to fear that microphone!!  It proved to be a nuisance at the April General Meeting as those who attended can testify.

For those of you who weren’t there or couldn’t hear me this is what I wanted to say:

At the Committee Meeting we chose two deputies and they are ex-President, Peter Allin, who will deputise for David McClure-Whybrow, Groups Coordinator.  The other is ex-Membership Secretary Sheila Giacomelli who will deputise for Stan Staines, current Membership Secretary.  We made a new appointment of Meet and Greet Officer, we couldn’t think of a better name at the time, this is Linda Coughlin and she will be responsible for assembling the volunteers at the membership tables and for greeting new members.

The other subject I wanted to cover was the fact that in my short life as your President I have encountered a couple of issues that really only arose from people being intolerant to each other.  The thing I was trying to get across is that; we are all one big unit and, whether a Committee member, Group Leader or ordinary Member we have to allow for a few delays to occur.  When a new Committee takes over there is always a little delay in getting things running smoothly, there is quite a lot of background tasks to be completed.  Group Leaders should allow those Members who have only just returned to Spain from pastures foreign to get their membership cards renewed, we are supposed to renew by the end of February but there are always a couple of exceptions.  Just let’s all take a little time to be more tolerant to each other, please.

The Summer Ball is filling up, with nearly 100 tickets already sold, email tickets@u3ajavea.org to reserve yours, or come along to the Parador and buy them direct from Jill KnightShirley King is busy organising the Tombola so we will have lots of prizes to win.  There will be a coach laid on for those who don’t want to drive but do want to drink; unfortunately the coach never gets near enough to my house to help, so it’s only half a bottle of wine for me – then water!!

The Group Leaders are all busy either filling our stomachs or helping us work it off!!  Or keeping our brains ticking over!  And long may they do so.

See you at the Parador on Wednesday 31st May.
