The President's Report (February 2018)

What a terrific Meeting we had in January. Over 30 Group Leaders setting out their stalls, and at around 9:30 the floodgates opened with over 1000 Members and prospective Members coming through the doors of the Parador.

Thanks are due to Karen White, our Groups Coordinator, for this feat of organisation and to our Membership Secretary Sheila Giacomelli who with her willing volunteers re-enrolled our Members for another year. A mention too for Linda Coughlin who assisted in giving induction talks to many of the record 156 new Members who enrolled. On a personal note, I just loved the model railway display.

And now it is February, the month of Pancake Day, Valentine´s Day, Chinese New Year and the beginning of Lent. I hear that John and Pat Pittaway´s Modern Sequence Dance Group enjoyed a romantic evening on the evening of St.Valentines Day at their venue at Quo Vadis. The Group meet each Wednesday and I encourage new Members to join the fun.

Thanks are also due to David and Anne Watts for an excellent “Dine and Dance” evening at the BeniAsia restaurant. They are worthy successors to the wonderful Pat and Eric Johnson who ran this Group for 10 years.

And now we look forward to the next General Meeting on 28th February. It is going to be very busy with the giving of a cheque to Tony Grande of our nominated charity last year Make a Smile. This will be followed by a presentation by this year´s nominated charity Todos Juntos Jávea.

We look forward also to the presentation by our Member, Peter Langley, of his exploits as an RAF pilot and then as a Commercial Airline Captain. A treat in store.

I am greatly looking forward to this year´s Barn Dance on Friday 2nd March organised by Shirley King, our Events Co-ordinator. An opportunity for us all to let our hair down.

Once again, I would like to thank our Committee and all our volunteers for their contribution, particularly at January's Open Meeting.
